Keynote Speech and Q&A By Dr. Conchita Jimenez-Gonzalez

Concepción “Conchita” Jiménez-González is the Environment, Health, Safety and Sustainability Lead for R&D at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), leading the global team that enables Pharma R&D to develop medicines safely and sustainably. In GSK she has had a series of roles of increasing responsibility, including Graduate Program Lead, Director of New Product Development, Director of Operational Sustainability, amongst others. Prior to GSK she was an environmental engineer at GeoEnvironmental Consultants; program manager, project engineer, and professor at Monterrey Tec (ITESM, Mexico); and visiting researcher at Pfizer and SmithKline Beecham.

Conchita has co-authored dozens of peer-reviewed publications in the areas of green chemistry and engineering.  She is also an adjunct professor at North Carolina State University (NCSU) Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Department, teaching the graduate-level class “Green Chemical Engineering” based on her co-authored book.  Conchita has served in various professional boards and committees, including the Scientific Advisory Committee in Chemicals for the US EPA, the Editorial advisory Board for the Kirk-Othmer Encyclopedia, and the Leadership Committee of the Green Chemistry Teaching and Learning Community. 

She holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering and an MBA from NCSU; an M.S. in Environmental Engineering from ITESM; and a B.S. in Chemical and Industrial Engineering at the Chihuahua Institute of Technology, Mexico.
